The Athletics Program at Académie Lafayette The Athletics Committee, under the supervision of the Academic Director, and the Board is entirely responsible for designing and implementing The Athletics Program at Académie Lafayette. The committee makes sure that Academie Lafayette has a comprehensive athletic program for grades K-8iéme. The activities and curriculum will emerge through a process that responds to the culture of our school. It must meet the needs of a range of developmental levels corresponding to each grade as well as to the varying fitness levels within each grade: some students will need to be physically challenged and some students with fitness deficits will require remediation or physical conditioning. The primary approach to all activities will be to combine fun, novelty, and variety with consistent expectations for discipline and hard work. Increasing the amount time and frequency that our students engage in physical activities each day is a fundamental goal for this program. Creating team sports programs for boys and girls will be an essential part of improving the culture of Académie Lafayette. The Athletic Program Committee plans to realize these goals by, in part, utilizing an extensive collegial and personal network to recruit professional, local guest athletes who will be invited to teach, demonstrate, coach, and inspire in their respective domains. Physical fitness and the resulting physical and mental health benefits is achieved by acquiring a taste for a healthy lifestyle during childhood and adolescence, and the Athletic Committee will develop a activities that balances play, seriousness, hard work and focused instruction on creating a healthy relationship to food consumption and an understanding of the effects of alcohol, drugs, and nicotine on the body and mind. The intensity of activities will depend on the grade level of the student. Some physical activities and after school team sports will realize total success and be greatly enhanced by help and volunteers from the parent community and by association with existing community organizations such as the AYSO-affiliated Brookside Soccer Club, and Great American Basketball League etc. The Athletic Director, under the supervision of the committee is responsible for initiating, organizing, and coordinating all these activities with a primary goal of providing a decent environment of physical activities with realistic standards of excellence and the assurance of the safety of our students. |

Requirements: Academic standing In order to participate to any of Academie Lafayette's sports activities, all students, except Kindergarteners, first graders, and second graders, have to fulfill the following requirements:
- GPA Requirement - 70% (2.0 grade point average)
The grade point averages will be communicated to the Athletics Director at the beginning of each season: Fall, Winter, and Spring Season. If a student failed to maintain a 2.0 GPA, he/she will not be allowed to participate in team activities.
- Students who make progress or effort could be considered if GPA is below the requirement.
Academics are a priority at this school and all faculty will be notified of our students participation in our sports program. If there is an academic issue in the classroom - our faculty members are encouraged to bring the concern to the attention of the athletic director. Steps will be taken to stress the importance of academics and if need be the student may be asked to refrain from participation from the sport program until academic achievement or expectations are meet.
