When Vicki Swanson was a child, she was rarely seen without a book in hand. In 1995, after 17 years working in the corporate sector, Mme. Swanson graduated from UMKC with a double major in Elementary Education and Liberal Arts. She taught first and second grade in the Kanss City Missouri School District for nine years. As a teacher, Mme Swanson is able to indulge in her life-long passion for reading and writing children’s literature. Her goal as an English language arts educator is to spark a love for reading and a confidence in writing in young people, and to help them discover the connections between learning and life.

Literacy is the key that unlocks the future for today's children.
