Eight Academic Subject Groups & Subject-Specific Criteria

MYP students study eight different subjects each year of MYP. Curriculum is organized and designed to encourage students to make connections between these subjects and with the real world. The eight subject groups include:

  • Language and literature (English and French)
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Language Acquisition (French, Spanish, and Mandarin)
  • Individuals and Societies (World History, American History)  
  • Physical and Health Education
  • Design (product and digital design, computer science, convergence journalism, etc.)
  • Art (visual and performing)

Curriculum and assessments are designed so that students learn the subject-specific content and skills as they relate to the four prescribed criteria identified by IB. MYP assessment requires teachers to assess the prescribed subject-specific objectives using the subject-specific criteria listed in the chart below.
